The Past
The dream starts within Hyrule Castle, in the courtyard that Zelda spent much of her time in as a child. To those who were around for it, you may recognize a very young Zelda standing on the other side of the courtyard from you, staring into a window that looks into the castle. If you look behind you, the figure of Impa, Zelda’s nursemaid, appears as a silent protector of sorts. If you pose no harm to young Zelda you may be awarded with memories of Impa. But if you do pose a threat, Impa will be there to remove you from the space.
At first talking to little Zelda gives you the same sort of dialogue that Link gets when he first meets her in game. She will eventually tell you a story and ask you to peer through the window at the evil man currently in the castle. She will then ask you if you believe her. If yes, she will ask you to help her and you will continue onto the next memory. If you say no, she’ll pout until you say yes (she’s very convincing).
You may be given a few memories between that moment and the moment that Ganondorf attacks the castle. Some are happy, some less so but things seem like they are normal around the castle. There may even be a few memories of an even younger Zelda in this set, though they will be much fuzzier and less clear than the recent ones (like any memories of her mother mostly consist of feelings, a face that she only remembers from pictures and a melody).
Eventually the memories will fade and you’ll appear in the castle once more, but this time it is under attack. There is chaos everywhere you look. After a few moments, a child’s scream can be heard from behind a large set of double doors, assumed to be the throne room. The doors burst open after a moment and Impa comes running out of the room, holding Zelda as she escapes from the castle. If you glance back into the throne room before the scene changes, you’ll see the King of Hyrule, dead on his throne with Ganondorf himself standing over the body.
The scene changes again and suddenly Impa and Zelda are on a horse, escaping the town. They reach the ruined Castle Town, with Ganondorf hot on their trail on his own horse. They reach the drawbridge and before escaping onto the field, they pass a boy in green. Before disappearing from sight, both the visitor’s and Link’s, she throws an object into the moat.
The Inbetween
This is not as clear as the first part, it contains more flashes of memories than anything. Leaving behind her life as Princess Zelda and beginning her life as Sheik. All of these memories will be what happens during the 7 years before Link wakes from his sleep.
The Future
This will focus on the time after Link wakes up. You have nearly free reign over exploring Hyrule (and it will not take nearly as much time to get around as it would normally). Each location you go gives memories of what Sheik was doing at that location during Link’s journey. The memories will start in the Temple of Time and if you decide to visit the Temple at any time again, the memories will end there as well (since that is where Sheik’s last memories are before coming to Adstring). It is possible to interact with Sheik during these memories, usually after the memory plays itself out. Though most of the time if you try to get something out of the Sheikah, she will blind you with a Deku Nut before escaping. Though if one were to try hard enough (or just bug her long enough) you might get something out of her directly.
